Pharmacology
Antiparasitic drugAlbendazole is a benzimidazole carbamate with anthelmintic and antiprotozoal activity against intestinal and tissue parasites.Studies have shown that albendazole exhibits vermicidal, ovacidal and larvacidal activity and exerts its anthelmintic effect by inhibiting tubulin polymerization. This causes the disruption of the helminth metabolism, including energy depletion, which immobilises and then kills the susceptible helminth.。Ivermectin is a strong endo and ectoparasitic agent, which spectrum of activity covers gastrointestinal nematodes, lung worms, insects, ticks, lice, mites. It paralyses nematodes and arthropods by stimulating GABA -mediated chloride ion conductance; the result is the blocking of postsynaptic transmission of the nerve impulses. Ivermectin has no effect on trematodes and cestodes because GABA is not involved in the neurotransmission of these parasites. In general, ivermectin is active against both immature and mature stages of the susceptible species. The effect of ivermectin is irreversible and prolonged, and this may be related to sustained stimulation of GABA release. While paralysis of the parasites is the most important effect of ivermectin, the suppression of reproductive processes also may be of significance.
Applications
Insect repellent: Against pig nematodes, fluke, tapeworm and parasite in vivo and in vitro.
Dosage and Administration
Mixed feed: 1000g of the premix per 1000KG of pig feed.
Adverse reactions
Albendazole has teratogenic effects。
Precautions
1. Use with caution on sow, 45 days prior to pregnancy;
2. Ivermectin is extremely toxic to prawns, fish and aquatic organism, take care of the drug residues including packing materials to avoid a pollution of water.
Withdrawal period
28 days for pig.
